How to travel with a wheelchair and seat scooter

There are wheelchair spaces on almost all our departures. These departures are marked with a wheelchair symbol in the timetable.

Two different types of wheelchair spaces

  1. Wheelchair space – This is a place where the floor surface is intended for placement of the wheelchair or scooter. During the trip, you will remain in the wheelchair or scooter. The seat has an anti-tip device which can be folded out to make the wheelchair or seat scooter safer.
  2. Wheelchair space with chair – This place has both a floor space intended for the wheelchair or seat scooter and an associated ordinary chair next to it that is included in the booking. If you have the opportunity, you can move to the chair

As a user of a wheelchair, you always have priority for the seat. The wheelchair/seat scooter is not fastened to the wall or the floor.

Dimensions of the wheelchair and seat scooter

The total weight for a wheelchair or seat scooter, including the passenger, may not exceed 300 kg. The turning circle must be at most 260 cm. The turning radius must not exceed 130 cm.

Wheelchair: W75xL125 cm

Seat scooter: W70xL120 cm

Find your wheelchair space on board

The wheelchair spaces on Mälartåg are located in Flexvagnen. The entrance doors have entrances level with the platform or lift.

Handling of wheelchairs and seat scooters on board

Trains often have narrow doors and passages. Therefore, it is important that your wheelchair or seat scooter does not exceed the dimensions above. You or your assistant need to be able to handle your wheelchair or seat scooter through narrow passages and on height-adjustable wheelchair lifts.

Wheelchairs may only be parked on a booked wheelchair space. In case that you can go on board and carry a folded wheelchair with you, the wheelchair is considered to be luggage. The folded wheelchair is placed in a luggage rack.

Please observe that it is not permitted to load wheelchairs, seat scooters ande electric scooters on board the train as this may entail a certain risk of fire.

Before the trip

We are not able to help you with control of dimensions and weight on the platform before the departure of the train. When you travel with us, you are expected to have an idea of the dimensions of your wheelchair or seat scooter and that it meets our requirements. If there are any doubts about the size, we will have to refuse boarding for safety reasons. We therefore recommend that you search for information in the product sheet which comes with your scooter or wheelchair. Contact your dealer for information or perform a measurement on your own to gain more knowledge about the dimensions of your wheelchair or seat scooter.
